Hi there!
Welcome to my blog where I will be documenting my relaxed hair journey.
I had been so used to showing up for my hair appointments and letting someone else do the work. Slowly though I could see the stylists didn't really have my best interests at heart. One stylist even proudly said that pain was the price of beauty when I still had to fix my hair again after they were done.
For a while I thought the answer had to be finding a better stylist. After finding one better than the last the reality of spending a whole day just getting my hair done and nothing else hit. I'd have to drive 3hours to get to them and back. Even though I got there just as they opened I would always be leaving late afternoon or even later. This is despite just getting a relaxer treatment and not getting my hair styled any further after sitting under the dryer. Those days were too long.
I was already trying to find ways to take my hair into my own hands after a stylist cancelled on me last minute then lock downs started. In May 2020 I decided to shave my head and start over. I wasn't even going to try and learn to self relax on the mess that I had in my head. I have super coily type 4 hair and there was no way it was going to end well.
I started documenting my journey on Instagram in September so you can follow me there as well @relaxedhairtings. There's still a lot for me to learn and get used to. My relaxer day might still take me all day but at least it will be on my own terms now.
Hope you are all well and have your hair thriving!
